1:00 pm: Arrive at the Alcatraz cruise terminal
Your personal tour guide-cum-driver will take you to Alcatraz cruise terminal located on Pier 33 and redeem your Alcatraz custom tour vouchers before checking you in on the next scheduled cruise (ferry) tour to Alcatraz Island. It is suggested that you eat here before embarking on the ferry and do carry some layers for cool afternoon in San Francisco Bay. Though you may also ask your personal tour guide-driver to stop at a local farmers’ market or a restaurant and grab something to eat in the course of your private Alcatraz SF tours.
1:30 PM – 5:00 PM: Enjoy The Infamous Alcatraz Island
Sail to Alcatraz Island and enjoy a 2 to 3 hour award-winning self-guided tour. Once you disembark from the Alcatraz ferry at Alcatraz Island, listen to the national park rangers' talk and general overview of your trip to Alcatraz Island. As you start heading up to the “Rock”, the staff will offer you the required Alcatraz award-winning cell house tour (an excellent audio self-guided tour) included in your tour price as well. This is a great way to travel the Island at your pace and learn more about the history of Alcatraz Island during the Federal Penitentiary era. The audio tour is totally worth listening to; not only you get a full experience, but you will also learn more about the history of the prison coming from the actual correctional officers and former inmates of Alcatraz. The audio is available in 8 languages including English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Dutch and Mandarin.
Enjoy a free afternoon and return to your hotel on your own.
Alcatraz cruise terminal is located within the Fisherman's Wharf, few blocks from the famous Pier 39. The Fisherman's Wharf is home to sidewalk seafood vendors, shopping boutiques, stores, the Wax Museum, San Francisco Aquarium, Boudin Bakery and Museum, the Rainforest Cafe, the "Musée Mécanique", the Maritime Museum and park, 2 lines of Cable Cars, Hard Rock Café, the famous chocolate factory called Ghirardelli Square and great hotels with views of San Francisco Bay. Consider staying at one of these hotels in the Fisherman's Wharf area away from the crowded San Francisco downtown. This allows you to walk back to your hotel from Alcatraz SF cruise tour rather than driving or taking public transportation to return to your hotel saving you money and time.
Just like all the other travel operators, we are not allowed to sell individual tickets for Alcatraz Island tours without combining Alcatraz with a city tour or Muir Woods and Sausalito tour. If you are looking for individual tickets to Alcatraz adventure, please contact Alcatraz directly.
